Participating in these communities has shaped how I think about technology beyond its technical dimensions. Internet governance is ultimately about who gets to make decisions about shared infrastructure — and those decisions have real consequences for communities in places like Nepal.
Through APrIGF, APIGA, APAN, and npNOG, I have learned that the technical and policy layers of the internet are deeply intertwined. BGP routing decisions affect which communities get affordable connectivity. DNS policy affects which languages get accessible namespace. AI governance frameworks written without input from low-resource language communities risk codifying existing inequalities into the next layer of infrastructure.
Having practitioners and technologists from emerging economies in these conversations is not just a matter of representation — it changes the quality of the decisions made. That is why I show up to these forums, and why I think it matters who else does.
